Today we left Joshua Tree for the Grand Canyon, and to meet up with Tim and Elyse (Seattle besties). We said goodbye to Sophia and chatted with her for a bit. She is the nicest human - she gave us natural remedies for Alex’s poison oak, she gave us bath salts for the tub, and when we left she gave us some of her homemade natural soap (not exactly sure what’s in it, but I’m sure its amazing). We told her we would come back to the desert and hit her up if we did.
On our way out, we stopped for breakfast, propane cans, postcards, and coffee from Joshua Tree Coffee Co. At breakfast, I experienced my first famous person siting. When we walked in I saw this guy that resembled a famous DJ that I saw a documentary on (I normally would not recognize a celeb/famous person). I didn’t think much about it, and ordered our food. When we sat down, it thought it looked a lot like the DJ, but I didn’t want to say anything because that’s weird/annoying. I looked at this person’s Instagram story to see if they were anywhere near Joshua Tree, and sure enough they were. They were also wearing the same jersey and shoes at they were in their story! By the time I realized this, they had already left. We saw Steve Aoki! I’m honestly not huge into his music or anything, but it’s kinda cool to see.
The car he was in (you can see his face if you look closely)
Proof it was actually him
At any rate, we headed off to the Grand Canyon, eating leftover pizza and picking up groceries for our upcoming backpacking trip. We got to our motel shortly before Tim and Elyse at the Grand Canyon Caverns and jumped in the pool to cool off (so HOT still). We all ate late lunches, so we started organizing the food and clothes for the trip. Before we knew it, it was 7:45, and the motel restaurant closed at 8. The parking lot was full of our crap, so we didn’t even try to make it. Keep in mind this is the only food establishment in the next 5+ miles. None of us remembered another restaurant, but we found one on wifi couple miles down on the reservation.
Packing
We finished packing around 11:30, and are waking up at 4am tomorrow in order to start and finish backpacking before it gets too hot. See you in a few hours!
