Moab

7/4/2018!

Happy Fourth of July! We’re driving about 6 hours to Arches National Park today to meet up with Tim, Elyse, and our friend Brian to celebrate the holiday. We don’t have anything specific planned for the trip besides enjoying the views and stoping wherever we want, so not a bad day ahead of us.

This morning we woke up early, packed up the few things we left out, and headed to breakfast. These mornings when we don’t need to make food, clean up food stuff, or any of these extra things are so much quicker. It’s really nice being able to just pack up the tent and leave. We grabbed breakfast at MeMe’s Cafe in town - great service and food, I highly recommend it if you’re in town.

After breakfast we drove straight through 4 hours to Moab and found the grocery store. We picked up the food we needed for the next few days of camping, and headed to Arches National Park. The town of Moab is super cute, with lots of cool shops that we will definitely check out, especially because they have AC. When we drove into the park, we ran into our friend Brian! We knew he was in the park already, but we found him at the first viewpoint, hugged, and made the gorgeous drive through the park to our campsite.

Us finding Brian!

The campsite was at the end of the main road through the park, and walking distance to a number of trails. We booked a group site (supposed to have 11+ people) because there were no other sites available online at the time (even though there were a bunch of open sites…), and it turned out to be amazing. Our site was the furthest away from everything, and had a backyard for us to explore.

It was still pretty hot, so we found a bit of shade and sat down for a bit until the shade increased. We explored our campsite and climbed all over the place. The rocks are giant, but they aren’t cliffs, so you can actually climb them and get pretty high. It’s actually kind of scary when you climb up a shallow rock, but on the other side it’s a complete drop off.

Once it cooled down we fired the grill and made an American dinner of Seattle Dogs (hot dogs with cream cheese, sautéed onions, peppers, and anything else you want), brats, watermelon, and other snacks. Before cleaning up and setting up our tents, we climbed up some rocks to see an amazing sunset! We eventually cooled down enough to go to bed, but not before siting outside and gazing at the stars. We planned for an early morning so we could hike before it gets unbearably hot.

That’s it for today!

A quick side note, in the future, I jump into water with my phone and it isn't turning back on, so I have limited photos, but plenty of GoPro videos thank god. Most photos were backed up, but some were not due to bad service :/. Anyways, here's a video of part of our drive in - it's gorgeous! It speeds up eventually so you can see more, just stick with it. Also, sorry about all the dead bugs on the windshield...
