We woke at 4am to clean up camp and head to Missoula. We were meeting Chuck there and wanted to hangout with him as soon as possible. On the drive out we tried to swim in the Boiling River (a river with a hot spring flowing into it), but it was closed due to the high water. We illegally went anyways, but it wasn’t super fun when we got down there. The water was flowing too quick for the hot and cold water to mix, so it was either too hot or too cold.
Last nights sunset - forgot to add this last night
This water is actually really really hot
The drive out of the park was amazing, as we watched the sun rise over the valley. We drove straight through to Missoula and met up with Chuck. We wandered around the farmers market (which was incredible - they even had live music) for awhile before finding Notorious P.I.G., a BBQ joint.
Another sunrise drive
We made our way to an ice cream shop and brewery after lunch to enjoy more of the finer things in life. We had more time to kill before checking into our Airbnb, and it was super hot out, so we found the Insectorium (we probably would have gone even if it wasn’t hot out). We got to watch a tarantula get fed, and a scorpion chew on a cricket. There were also a number of other large, extremely creepy bugs.
After looking at bugs we checked into our Airbnb, showered, and hung out for a little while before heading back into town. We met up with one of Chuck’s PCT friends for a drink, and then a pizza spot where we split a few pizzas. After getting one more drink, we headed back to the Airbnb to chill and drink some of the nice whisky we bought in Yellowstone (the best part of the whisky was the bottle, which has bison on it).
It was a fairly long day, so we called it a night so we could wake up tomorrow for a day of floating!
