Today was an incredible. We slept until it started to warm up, and made savory pancakes (obviously) with strawberries and walnuts (great idea Elyse!). We packed up for our day of exploring all the falls before the sunshine hit our campsite.
We went to one of the falls we passed on the way in yesterday, and just hung out all day. We were on the top section of the falls first, swimming up the reed alley, hopping from pool to pool, and just enjoying the coolness of the water. We went to the edge of the falls and looked over - it was a slow enough current in sections and the walls of the rock pools were high enough to do so safely.

From the top we looked down to another beautiful blue set of pools and rocks to jump off of. So naturally, we grabbed our stuff to explore another section! We walked down the trail to the bottom of the falls and jumped in. There were a bunch of large rocks that we climbed up to and jumped off. There was a part of the falls that had a trickle coming down, so we swam up to the rock and hung out behind the falls. It wasn’t long before we were really cold, actually shivering, and jumped into the water and found the sun. It was wild to sit behind the waterfall shivering knowing that just outside it was over 100 degrees.

Getting misted on before jumping in
We hung out by the rocks, tossing the frisbee and reading before heading into town for some ice cream and postcards. We watched a few helicopters drop off supplies on the reservation and take off into the canyon before heading back to the falls. It was unbelievable how hot it got walking 1ish miles away from the falls. As soon as we were done eating, we headed back to the falls for another swim and headed to the Havasu Falls before dinner.
We had a late dinner (burrito bowls with rice, soaked beans, chicken [canned - it’s not as bad as it sounds], salsa, avocado, tomatoes, onions, and peppers), played cards, organized our stuff for tomorrow’s early morning, and jumped in the water again to cool off before bed. It was windy again, but a hot wind. Tomorrow is a 3:45 am wake up to make sure we don’t get stuck in the heat on the way up.
Off to sleep!
