We woke up at 5am (I’m pretty sure, I forgot to journal this day) and said our goodbyes to the Mullens and Kiera the pup. We drove for 5 hours, and got to Tetons in the early afternoon. We didn’t book a campsite here because they’re all first come first serve, so we were naturally anxious that we wouldn’t be able to find a campground and we would have to sleep next to the bison and other dangerous animals. This is why we book everything in advance that we can.
World's Largest Antler Arch
We got there and there were about 20 campsites left, so we picked the best one. We set up camp, and we headed to see the park. We first went on a short hike near the water. It was what they call a lollipop loop trail - it’s exactly what you picture, a hike out, a loop, and the same hike back.
Since this is the first opportunity to swim in this park, it didn’t take long for us to jump into the mountain reflecting water (this doesn’t sound grammatically correct, but I like the sound of it so I’m using it). We finished that hike, bought some postcards, and drove up to the top of Signal Mountain. As we pulled in, there was a flash of lighting in the distance and the rain started to come down.
We took that opportunity to get out, take in the views for a minute, and jump back in the car. On the drive back to camp, we debated cooking in the possible rain, or going to a restaurant. We took the educated risk of cooking in the rain, and we lucked out. We ate dinner over the fire before a bedtime swim with the sun setting against a dark green and gray mountain. Our phone cameras we not equipped to capture that view.
After the swim we called it a night. Our plan into wake up tomorrow at 4am to go to the best sunrise view in the world.
