Beach Town

6/18/2018

After an amazing night last night with ridiculous views, we woke up today with the same clear coastal views. We hung out for a bit at the campsite after cleaning up, but we knew we had a couple hours of driving to LA so we headed out. The only ways to LA from here are through Monterey (way too far north), or Nacimiento Road, which is the rod we took yesterday for camping.

It worked out because after driving up the winding mountainous road, we got to swim again! We’ve been fortunate enough to find swimming every day we’ve camped. Sliding into a sleeping bag after a day of hiking, covered with dust, feels awful. I’m sure one of these days, likely in the deserts, we won’t be able to find swimming and we’ll have to deal with it.

After a quick dip we stopped at In & Out for burgers, fries , and shakes. They’re so delicious it’s surprising we haven’t stopped more often in California. My goal is to stop at least one more time, because we won’t have the option in lots of other states during this trip.

The drive was pretty normal highway driving, except for one section we drove through where there were oil rigs (not sure if this is the correct word for it) everywhere. You don’t see this in Washington or Wisconsin, so it was new to me. There were literally huge fields of these things.

A few more hours, and only 30ish minutes of traffic later we pulled into Venice and met up with Kevin. Our Airbnb was unreal, with literally everything in walking distance. Our goal for the next days or so is to avoid the infamous LA traffic. After eating an overpriced but still delicious dinner we walked down to the boardwalk to check out the beach situation.

After wandering for awhile we called it a night. I have received some requests to add more pictures to the blog, especially for those that aren’t following us on Instagram, so I plan to add more at the end of each blog. Since today was a driving day, I don’t have many, so I’ll add a picture of Manny. Ingrid (Alex’s Mom) is taking care of Manny while we’re on the trip and has been keeping us posted with his life on the East coast, so I’ll share a bit with all you cat lovers out there (if you don’t think you like cats, you just haven’t met the right one for you).

The best/cutest cat in history
