Redwoods

5/31/2018

After an amazing day at the Bunch’s yesterday we woke up to yet again another amazing breakfast. No better way to wake up than the smell of bacon,  pancakes (homemade syrup), and eggs. After breakfast we said our goodbyes and left, however not before Susan filled our cooler with food. These Bunch’s really are the best humans.

We had a long drive - 10+ hours on the road. We chose the long way because of the beautiful drive, avoiding I5 and any other major highways. It was a gorgeous drive that also included Ocean Rolls in Bend, OR at Soarrow Bakery (looknthem up, they are the best morning roll I will ever eat in my life).

We stopped to eat our sandwiches at a brewery in the tiny town of Mitchell, OR. It’s a cute town in the mountains in the middle of the highway. After lunch we wandered the 5 block town and ejedednio buying $24 bookends made of rock that was found in the mountains we were driving by - it was a deal we couldn’t refuse.
A few more pee stops and frisbee tosses and we made it to our campsite around 10pm. Tomorrow is a second phone interview with the NY organ donation agency - wish me luck!

After a good informational interview we made breakfast by the fire (yogurt, granola, strawberries). Fairly quickly we hit the road and headed for Hidden Beach, a quick 2 mile hike to a private beach. The views were absolutely stunning, we got to swim in the ocean, and the sun was shining.

We then made tacos with beef from Susan (I told you she filled our cooler) and headed to the next short walk. A short loop lead us around the largest trees I’ve ever seen. Washington is some large trees on the Olympic Peninsula, but these we HUGE! We tried to take pictures but they couldn’t capture the maginitude of these trees.

A chunk of the bark is the size of a normal tree. It was fairly busy but definitely worth checking out. Tomorrow we’re planning on a harder hike so hopefully that will scare off some of the crowds.

We were feeling fairly tired so we headed back to camp and jumped in the Smith River (what normal people do when they’re tired). The water was pretty cold, but it’s bearable. 92% chance we’ll be doing this again tomorrow.  Dinner tonight was farmer market pork chops and green beans with a side of beer. Post dinner was fire chillin, writing this, Yosemite meal planning, which were both getting very excited for.

Night all!
